[PHOTO] Dufferin Grove after the first snow last Thursday

Last Thursday after the first snow of fall, I took a walk down to Dufferin Grove Park. The snow, already beginning to melt in the relative warmth, dressed the park up nicely.

[PHOTO] Four photos from the Dufferin Grove vigil

Yesterday evening at 7, I went to the Toronto Community Vigil for the victims of the recent Pittsburgh mass shooting at Dufferin Grove Park, organized by If Not Now Toronto. It was a necessary act of solidarity, gathered under the powerful yellow glow of the streetlights of Havelock Street on the eastern edge of the park and the dimmer glow of house lights in the neighbourhood beyond, a gathering-together of mourning for the dead–in Pittsburgh, in Kentucky, in Gaza–and a statement of the need to join together to resist the alt-right and white nationalism. I’m still afraid of the way the world is evolving, but I don’t think I feel quite so alone.

[PHOTO] Twelve photos taken in and around Dufferin Grove Park

Dufferin Grove, on Dufferin south of Bloor, is one of the most desirable neighbourhoods of Toronto, and the Dufferin Grove Park at this neighbourhood’s heart is a fine public space. This Wednesday afternoon, I enjoyed my stroll through the changing colours on a warm fall day.

This tree at the southern edge of Dufferin Grove Park only looked like its leaves were golden, an artifact of the evening sun. Low rainfall and dried grass notwithstanding, things aren’t nearly that bad.

[VIDEO] “Walking the Jenna K. Morrison Reflexology Footpath in Dufferin Grove Park, Toronto”

The life of Jenna K. Morrison, a Toronto woman killed in a tragic 2011 bicycle accident, was commemorated in 2014 in the west end Dufferin Grove Park with a reflexology footpath named in Morrison’s honour. Torontoist’s 2014 post touches on the site’s beauty.
